Garry and Thelma Zabel, who directed and co-directed two Spain Semester programs, have funded this scholarship to help support students’ participation in Colorado Mountain College’s Spain Semester Abroad Program. Their intention is to help students become more globally aware of their role as citizens of the world.

Preference will be given to CMC students. Applicants must be in good academic standing with at least a 2.5 GPA and are reviewed on the basis of their complete academic records, personal essays, level of maturity and recommendations. Applicants must have completed at least one semester of the target language to apply for language study abroad. There are no residency restrictions. Applicants must have completed the financial aid application (FAFSA). Activities related to campus and/or community service or service learning should be listed. Both need and/or merit will be considered.
The International Programs Committee requests that scholarship recipients, upon their return to the U.S., provide feedback to IPC by (at least one of the following): making a presentation about their experiences to IPC, class and/or community organization; being available for interview with CMC’s Public Information Office (for article to be submitted to local press); providing a written statement to IPC on how the program affected their studies, and/or employment.
