The Stranahans, who share a long-time interest in the arts, philanthropy and education, shared their valued personal collection of 81 vintage black and white photographs with Colorado Mountain College in 2009.

The collection, which took the Stranahans about 30 years to gather, includes remarkable examples from many of the most iconic names in 20th century photography including these:

  • Ansel Adams
  • Ruth Bernard
  • Henri Cartier-Bresson
  • Fay Goodwin
  • Milton Green
  • William Heick
  • Graciela Iturbide
  • Kenro Izu
  • Lotte Jacobi
  • Andre Kertesz
  • Louis Stettner
  • Paul Strand
  • Josef Sudek
  • George Tice
  • Arthur Tress
  • Jerry Uelsmann
  • Ron Van Dongen
  • David Wolf
  • Marian Yampolsky

The Stranahans have indicated this gift should be used to strengthen the college’s educational mission, and is to be widely available to Colorado Mountain College students and the various communities in CMC’s 12,000-square-mile service area.

The Stranahan Collection will be on display at CMC in Edwards through April 29. Edwards is the last of the Colorado Mountain College campuses to host the collection since the tour started in 2009.

After this, Alice Beauchamp, the CMC ArtShare director, plans to offer it as a traveling exhibit to other arts organizations and universities.
