Colorado Mountain College in Leadville

More than forty years ago, Colorado Mountain College in Leadville opened its doors. Student housing, academic and administrative buildings were added in 1999 and a new library in 2007. The campus has always prided itself on being an integral part of the community. Its outdoor leadership and environmental programs, in particular, continue to receive many accolades.

Climax Molybdenum Leadership Center - Community Campaign
Freeport McMoRan has generously gifted one million dollars for a beautiful new building in Leadville, for CMC student education and as a resource for the community. The building features room for conferences, a climbing wall, and a workout area for which students have raised $20,000 for equipment. Nestled against CMC’s 260 forested acres, the leadership center has direct access to 15 kilometers of groomed cross country trails. Spectacular views of the Sawatch and Mosquito Ranges provide a truly spectacular setting.

The community campaign is now underway to raise $150,000 to finish outfitting the space, including the climbing wall. The Boettcher and Gates Family Foundations have each awarded CMC challenge grants to help fund this important new building. To help meet their challenges, you can purchase a brick to celebrate a special occasion, honor a community leader, memorialize a loved one or preserve a company name for posterity. Other naming opportunities are also available. Gifts to this campaign qualify for an enterprise zone credit.
